My favorite citrus: grapefruit! I love it on top of my yogurt and granola for breakfast, to snack on and in a green salad. And my favorite cocktail? You guessed it right? A grapefruit cocktail; a salty dog!
Grapefruit juice + vodka + salt rim = me smiling! My kids like the tartness of grapefruit as well so I made them a grapefruit mocktail on the weekend when I was preparing a Salty dog for myself. And we came up with a good name for it too: a fizzy pup. Grapefruit juice, sparkling water and a sugar rim.
How to make a Salty dog?
To make a Salty Dog I always start with squeezing fresh grapefruit juice. Nothing beats a fresh fruit cocktail!
I prepare two small plates: one with some lime juice (or better yet, use some of the grapefruit juice) and the other with salt. To get a thin salt crust on the rim of my grapefruit cocktail, I first dip the glass in the juice to wet the rim and next I dip it in salt.
In a (cocktail) shaker, I shake the grapefruit juice and vodka and pour it in the salt rimmed glass over ice.
I garnish the glass with a slice of grapefruit and/or a twig of mint. Which is totally optional, but looks pretty.
How to make a fizzy pup?
I start with squeezing fresh grapefruit juice. Fresh fruit juice is just always better than store bought (in my opinion).
I prepare two small plates: one with some lime or grapefruit juice and the other with sugar (I used colored sugar which just looks so attractive). To get a thin salt crust on the rim I dip the glass in the juice to wet the rim and next I dip it in salt
Now I pour the juice in the sugar rimmed glass over ice followed by the sparkling water.
I garnish the glass with a slice of grapefruit and a colorful straw. Totally optional again, but why not, right?
This kids think it’s so cool they get a cocktail as well. They love it, I love it and if you like citrus you’ll love it too! These grapefruit cocktails are
refreshing – adjustable – perfectly tart – & seriously delicious
