Apple pie oats, a true fall-flavored breakfast. One of many reasons why I love fall.
Hard to get out of bed when the days are getting shorter and it’s cold(er) outside? Not when you are having these healthy, quick and easy apple pie oats for breakfast. Creamy, warm bites of nutritious oats will get you started and the smell of caramelized apples and fall spices will get everyone out of bed!
A nutritious breakfast
Did you know oats and apple are full of fiber? And did you know dietary fibre is important for your digestive health and your bowel movements? It also helps you feel fuller for longer, can improve cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Here’s another one; oats are a good source of high quality protein. I think it is save to say oats are a nutrient-dense food. So oats for breakfast is a good way to start the day!
Apples are full of antioxidants and fiber. So what counts for oats, counts for apples as well; they are a nutrient-dense food. So apart from this being a delicious breakfast, these apple pie oats are also a good-for-you breakfast.
How I make these healthy, quick and easy apple pie oats?
I add oats, water or (plantbased) milk, salt and cinnamon to a medium sauce pan on medium heat. I keep an eye on it and occasionally stir until the oats are soft and creamy. I add a bit of maple syrup to it once the oats are ready.
To another saucepan I add the cubed apples, cinnamon and maple syrup. I do this at the same time I make the oats; it will take more or less the same time to cook. On medium to low heat I cook the apples and stir occasionally. The apples will turn soft and the maple syrup, cinnamon and the liquid from the apples together will turn into a brown sauce.
A quarter of the softened apples I add to the oats and stir to combine it all. Now I divide the oats over 4 bowls and top it with the remaining apples. Sometimes, to make it more creamy and fancier, I add a splash of frothed milk to each bowl. That’s it! Breakfast is ready!
I love this apple pie oatmeal bowl! I hope you do too. It is
nutritious – full of fibre – full of flavor – easy and quick to make – and SO delicious!
