How to make your own sweet chili sauce using honey
I love sweet chili sauce! It goes great with so many dishes. It was time I made my own wholesome version of it using honey. So here is my healthier sweet chili sauce.
Simple method, only 7 ingredients (6 if you don’t count water as an ingredient) and ready within 10 minutes. This recipe makes a full jar, so make it once and enjoy it for a while! Let’s make some healthy sweet chili sauce together!
How I make this healthier sweet chili sauce?
Like I said, it is very simple. I add all the ingredients – honey, water or half water/half lime juice, rice vinegar, corn starch, garlic, red pepper flakes and salt – to a medium size sauce pan and I stir until the cornstarch has dissolved.
Over medium heat I bring the sauce to boil and then I reduce it to low and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
I take it off the heat and let it cool off for 5 minutes before pouring it into a jar. Once the sweet chili sauce reaches room temperature I seal the jar and place it in the refrigerator. It will keep for 3 weeks.
I told you it was easy! Enjoy your honey infused sweet chili sauce!
How to make this kid friendly?
I either add less chili flakes or I mix the sweet chili sauce with some ketchup. Our oldest now actually likes the original ‘spicy’ sweet chili sauce, the little one prefers it mixed with ketchup. Perfect! Everyone happy!
I always have a jar of sweet chili sauce in my fridge now. It literally goes with everything! Yummm… Will you give it a go? I hope you’ll love it as much as we do. It is
easy and quick to make – very versatile – adjustable – and so delicious!
