If you’re craving a burger and fries, but want to go the healthier route, then you NEED to make this bowl!
How I make this burger and fries bowl?
Prep all ingredients
I start by prepping all the ingredients; slicing the tomatoes, onion, avocado, and chopping lettuce/greens. And I cut the (sweet) potatoes into fries as well.
Bake the fries and bacon in the oven
I preheat the oven to 425F/220C and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. I toss the sliced (sweet) potatoes with the oil and seasoning, before spreading them out on the baking sheet so that no two fries touch. This will helps them roast very crispy. I bake them in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
To cook the bacon in the oven too, I lay it out on the second baking sheet and bake it for 15-20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until crispy and golden brown. I do this in the same oven with the fries on a different rack. The other option is to pan fry the bacon in a large skillet.
While the fries and bacon bake in the oven, I make the burger patties.
Make the burger patties
I season the ground beef, add oat flour or bread crumbs, an egg and combine it all to form patties. Sometimes I make them meatless using this recipe.
In a hot skillet I brown the patties on both sides, until they are just not pink on the inside anymore.
While I brown the beef patties, I whisk together all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl until smooth.
Make the special burger bowl sauce
I whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl until well combined.
Special burger sauce ingredients:
- (vegan) mayo, homemade or store bought
- dijon mustard
- (homemade) ketchup
- apple cider vinegar or liquid from a jar of (homemade) dill pickles
- garlic powder
- onion powder
Assemble the burger and fries bowls
To assemble the burger and fries bowls, I divide the greens between the bowls and top them with tomatoes, onions, pickles, avocado, beef patties, crispy bacon and the (sweet potato) fries. Lastly, I drizzle the bowls with the special sauce, and/or leave it on the side for dipping.
TIP!
After cutting the greens, especially when I (just) use kale, I add a pinch of salt and ½-1 tbsp of balsamic vinegar to it and massage the greens. It breaks down some of the fibres in kale; it make for a more tender salad.
This burger and fries bowl is a big hit in this household! I hope you’ll enjoy it too. It is
low on carbs – healthier – easy to make – wholesome – SO delicious!
